Welcome to my website!
There are three things in particular that I am passionate about, all captured by the sentence: Life with God that forms people to be a loving presence for others.
- Life With God: This is my theological anchor. I have changed a lot over the years, but what hasn’t changed is my love for theology. Who is God? How is God present in this world, and how is his presence experiened? What story is the Bible telling? These are questions I love.
- Forming People: This is my discipleship anchor. What is meant by discipleship? What does it mean to be formed by life with God? How do I be with Jesus, become like him, and do as he did?
- Loving Presence: This is my pastoral anchor. When I spent time as a pastorl intern fresh out of seminary, the pastor that mentored me had a philosophy of ministry that has alwways stuck with me:
“A good pastor,” he started, “Well… really a good Christian… actually, a good person does three things: grows close with Jesus, becomes a safe friend, and moves towards pain. Because that is what Jesus did. He was intimately connected to his Father. He was a safe person to be around. And he was always moving towards pain.”
These are my obsessions (whether or not I actually execute on them), and they are somehting I want to think more deeply about.
